Making it simple for students to join societies and find their community
Fewer than 5% of Brunel’s 16,000+ students joined a society outside sport or culture, and the Student Union website made societies hard to find. I revisited a 2020 volunteer project with the Student Union to make discovering a society that matches your interests simple.
After surveying 40+ students, I designed a responsive layout with a fixed filter sidebar and society cards that grow with the screen, then refined it through A/B tests: societies open in a modal so students keep their place, filters live in the sidebar, and a profile suggests new societies each week.
